Hey! Guess What!  I left the house today. Twice!  This is progress, for sure.

Katy was very jealous of Lucy’s appearance on the blog last week, so it’s her turn now.  (Did you know dogs can get jealous? It’s scientific fact.  Check it out – http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=97944783).

Katy-did

Hi. I’m a big dummy, but I love you all lots and lots and lots!

Here’s to feeling a little better and the start of a brand new week tomorrow!

Lucy Sez...

Lucy sez, “Mom has an upper respiratory infection so she’s just laying there watching football. That means I’m in charge and I’m off to raid the kibble bucket!”

And now back to the blogging.

May 15, 2007 · 2 Comments

I haven’t blogged in a week. It’s because I’ve been knitting. You understand, right? There’s been a singular focus on finishing the Top Secret Graduation Gift, and then there was blocking, and seaming, and weaving in. Now my eyes are uncrossed (almost) and my hands are uncurled and it’s done and done and done some more…but I can’t show you pictures yet. I’m sorry. After this weekend, all will be revealed.

In the meantime, I’ll catch all of you readers up on the other WIPs – you know, like a Week in Progress, Work in Progress post. Catchy, eh?

First up, and farthest along, we have the front of Monica:

I gotta say, I don’t do pink, but this? This is cute. Yessiree.

Next is the Dream Swatch Scarf (scroll down on left for pattern):

Then, the revitalized brown sock. Once upon a time, this sock was a Jaywalker, but it tried to strangle me from the feet up, so I decided it needed a gentler pattern in order to corral it’s aggression. Hence, the Woven Stitch from SKS:

And last night I cast on for the Ribs & Lace Tank from the Spring ‘07 IK. Nothing to see here on that front yet. I think it will be my traveling project this weekend….

In closing, Katy would like you all to know that she is glad the Top Secret Graduation Gift is done, so that she can go out and play instead of looking at me like this whilst I knit and kneglect:

It’s a beautiful day here in Atlanta, and I thought it appropriate for a (project) Spectrum Sunday collage – hope you enjoy!

Happy Birthday, Mom!

April 27, 2007 · 2 Comments

Well, the birthday was yesterday, but I couldn’t put up pictures of the Top Secret Birthday Surprise until after I gave it to her, so here’s to extending the birthday an extra day through the blog. So, without further ado…

An in progress shot:

BiP1

I couldn’t have done it without Lucy (well, perhaps I could have, but it was certainly more fun rescuing the blanket from the jaws of death every once in a while):

Here’s the best picture of the finished product:

A close-up of the pattern detail (the color is more accurate in the above picture, but the blanket and flash were misbehaving for the close-up):

Mom, I hope you like it – I love you!

Pattern: Bunny Hop Baby Blanket
Yarn: Cascade 220 Tweed, Color 601, 2.5 hanks
Needles: Clover Bamboo Circs, Size 8, 29″
Modifications: I only repeated the diamond pattern 5 times.

On Karma…

Good Yarn Karma, specifically.

Karma Yarn 1

Building a stash is fun. Building a stash without spending money is more fun.

Karma Yarn

I got this yarn from the lurvely Ramona from a posting on Good Yarn Karma – have you been there?  No?  Well, go, silly!  It’s a destashing site for people who just want to give away or trade yarn/books/magazines, etc – no selling.  No big deal. Just FREE YARN.

Lucy invites you to ponder on that for a moment:

Lucy Thinks

Or maybe she’s trying to decide what socks will come to life!  Any suggestions?

Progress…

If you look closely, you can start to see a sock-ish looking thing.

        Socks1_4407_2         Socks1_4407

It’s just over 3 inches long, and feels like it will be finished by, oh, September or so. (Of course, it’s all relative, considering Dogged’s post about her knee socks.)

I’m also making progress on the Top Secret Birthday Surprise, but can’t show any photos of that, much as I’d like to. Somebody who shouldn’t might see.

I had a fleeting moment of hope today as the UPS guy pulled up to the house – my yarn from the Knit Happens fiasco is due tomorrow, but I saw the truck and thought Brown might be doing something for me. Alas, no such luck – it was a J.Crew package for my downstairs neighbor. Imagine – buying clothes when you could buy yarn?!?! Tomorrow, though – the sun will come out.

In the meantime, I’ll leave you with a pic of Katy enjoying the early Spring weather…

…And speaking of the Kids…

March 21, 2007 · 1 Comment

I don’t believe I’ve formally introduced you.

When I talk about “The Kids,” I will be referring to my pets, naturally.

Meet Lucy, a 5-year old tabby:

She has severe paranoia, especially when it comes to shadows, dust bunnies, and other harmless and/or imaginary foes.

This is Katy, a 2-year old labrador evader:

You’ll notice I said evader, and not retriever, because I do not recall her ever retrieving anything in her two years of life. Instead, when I throw balls and things, she looks at me as though I must be nuts for thinking she is going to get up and go get anything. Also? She answers to everything from “Chunk” to “Refrigerator,” which according to the experts on The Today Show means she’s not especially bright. All of which is ok, because she’s still the best mutt in the world.

I’m sure these two will be making regular appearances, as models, inspiration, or just for the plain-ol’-cuteness factor.
