Lacking a Catchy Title – Also Lacking the Greatest Yarn Ever Made

July 29, 2007 · 4 Comments

It looks like this week has gotten away from me. I can’t blame it on Harry or anything else, really. I have no excuses.

(I just thought of an excuse, actually. I did run a 5K Saturday.

So, I blame the rigorous training program for no blogging.)

I have been knitting, I promise. It’s just that the thing I’ve been spending most of my time on is un-bloggable at this point (but! there are pictures on Ravelry, if you’re interested – it’s the WIP with the “Bday” word in it).

Also, I am getting close to having a pair of Jaywalkers that – breathe your collective sighs of relief – actually fit. Here’s what they look like right now:

Since I have no other progress of note, how about pictures of yarn instead?

This was one of my birthday acquisitions from WEBS, intended to be Sesame. My plan is for it to be my go-to Cardi for the fall and for use in my igloo office. It’s a shame Jaeger yarns are being discontinued, but I am a shameless beneficiary.

I picked this up when Adam had his sale a couple of weeks back – I lurve it, deeply. It’s the Bamboo Grove colorway, which I think will be great for fall socks. The tragedy is that after the sale, Adam then printed his Love and Peace or Else colorway (picture here), and then promptly sold it, and now I am a very, very sad knitter. Those colors – the red, the black – those are UGA colors! And football is almost upon us! I love this yarn like I have loved no other…I MUST HAVE IT!!!!

Let’s talk yarn…

July 18, 2007 · 4 Comments

This is not a yarn cake. No, don’t argue – this is a yarn cupcake.

(Blue Sky Alpaca Silk for Mom’s Clementine Shawlette)

This, dear readers, is a yarn cake.

eco wool cake1

(Cascade Eco Wool for a project to be named later)

You don’t believe me? For comparison purposes:

I’m just saying it’s a good thing I decided to take that hank into Knitch (it’s the best LYS in the world, have I mentioned?) to get it wound, because I fear what would have become of me and the yarn trying to wind that sucker by hand.

<<In non-knitting news, I would just like to say that I cannot remember a time when I have not been a loyal fan of the Atlanta Falcons, even when they were really, really, really bad. Now, because of this,  Michael Vick is officially dead to me.  And until Arthur Blank does the right thing and gets rid of him, so are the Falcons as a whole.  I’m taking suggestions for a new team, if you have them.  In the meantime, I say put Mr. Vick in a ring with one of the dogs he tortured and see if he likes it.>>

How about something pretty to take our mind off of it?

Yes, that is the Mystery Stole #3, which I have decided to knit.

I have never knit lace before.

I have to learn to knit lace, because Anne did this.

So see? It’s all her fault.

Also, some catching up to do…

…for Project Spectrum.

I know it’s June now, but I had to wait until I had the CD from my mom of pictures we took in New Orleans.

See? It was pink and green!

Plus, then I got this yarn from The Yarn Grove (so awesome – good ol’ Georgia girls, like myself) and it demanded it’s turn in  the Project Spectrum spotlight:

But now? I’m ready to make the transition – from greens and yellows to reds and blacks!

Onward!

Life on the Blogland Playground…

May 17, 2007 · 5 Comments

I’ve been tagged! Which is very exciting! Because it means someone has read my blog! (Or, at the very least, someone knows I have a blog – either way, it’s progress.)

Specs got me for the “7 weird things about me” meme.

1. I have an inexplicable desire to own a pet turtle named Pablo.

2. I am one of those obnoxious eaters who can’t stand for the different types of food on the plate to touch. As a result, I often find myself using three or more separate pieces of dishware in one meal. Also? I eat one thing at a time, in order of least favorite to most favorite, and I always turn my plate so that the thing I happen to be eating at that moment is directly in front of me. Apparently, I’ve always done this. Right, Mom?

3. I do not like – and by do not like, i mean HATE – to fly. (This is on my mind because I have to fly tomorrow. Wish me luck.) I would much rather drive for 42 hours to get somewhere. And yes, I realize that this is statistically irrational.

4. When I was very small, I wanted to be a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader. This lasted until I changed my goals to become a Dallas Cowboys player. Why Dallas? I have no idea – I can’t stand the Cowboys.

5. The sound of people filing their fingernails just about makes me nauseous.

6. When I set an alarm, the digits in the minutes have to add up to the digit(s) in the hour. For example, my alarm set for work is at 5:41 AM.

7. My favorite movie ever? The Cutting Edge. I even tried ice skating lessons once, but quickly realized it was not for me. I think it was one of the few things in my life I quit halfway through.

Now, I’m supposed to tag people. I still think I’m relatively new in knit-blog-land, so I don’t know if I’m going to tag someone who’s already played…or if the people I tag will even know! Oh well – c’est la vie! Here goes – I tag Leah, Sarah, Nuttnbunny, and Ashley.

Oh, and because this is a knitting blog, here’s a picture of yarn.

Specifically, Classic Elite Skye Tweed for Ester – I’ll be casting on this weekend on my trip. Stay tuned to see pictures of the Top Secret Graduation Gift after it’s unveiling…

On Karma…

Good Yarn Karma, specifically.

Karma Yarn 1

Building a stash is fun. Building a stash without spending money is more fun.

Karma Yarn

I got this yarn from the lurvely Ramona from a posting on Good Yarn Karma – have you been there?  No?  Well, go, silly!  It’s a destashing site for people who just want to give away or trade yarn/books/magazines, etc – no selling.  No big deal. Just FREE YARN.

Lucy invites you to ponder on that for a moment:

Lucy Thinks

Or maybe she’s trying to decide what socks will come to life!  Any suggestions?

It has begun….

TSGG1

I have cast on for the Top Secret Graduation Gift.

And, the jaywalking continues – I’m just about to start the heel flap. In theory. Since I’ve never done the sock thing before, it should be an interesting time.

And because it’s nice out, at least for today, I’m going to leave you with a bit of Project Spectrum springy, green-y goodness. Enjoy!

The Box Finally Came!

Look!

Debbie Bliss Cotton Denim Aran in Sky White

Rowan Handknit Cotton

Rowan Handknit Cotton in Tope

Regia Sock Yarn

Regia Sock Yarn in Roma and Venecia

Lorna’s Laces

Lorna’s Laces Bullfrogs & Butterflies in Glenwood

I’m so excited – I really can’t stand it. I’m going to have to hide it all though, so as not to get distracted from the Top Secret Birthday Surprise and the Top Secret Graduation Gift.

The only sad part of the story is that the Cascade 220 I ordered to eventually make My First Sweater was not in the box. BUT! The lovely ladies at Knit Happens have been incredibly responsive to my obnoxious questions, and they’re either going to try and track down the Cascade or send me some Naturewool instead. I can’t imagine what they’ve been going through with the ferociousness of the sale, but my hat is off to them!

I did also get one more type of yarn, but I’m saving that picture for some better lighting and a Project Spectrum post, so stay tuned!

Yarn is going to be a problem.

April 2, 2007 · Leave a Comment

My parents are on vacation in Camden, ME.  I found myself last night looking up any LYS in the area and giving my mom directions to each store so that she can stop by and see if they have any bags of yarn on sale.  Or not on sale.  Just for sale is fine too.

On a related note, I spent the weekend in Roanoke, VA.  It was fun – great trip, great visits with family and friends.  But! I didn’t have time to go to the LYS in Roanoke, and it has cast a pall over the entire weekend.

Nobody warned me about this.  This is not ok.

Pictures of the Jaywalking that took place in VA will be forthcoming.
